That Time I Joined a Movement…

I was angry. Seething. Why couldn’t I get the support I needed from the school system? As it turns out, when it comes to dealing with bullying and cyber bullying, effective protocols just were not in place. We take for granted that today’s youth will never be cleverer than we, yet they are growing up in a technologically advanced world. Their web is not the web I grew up with. My concerns fell on deaf ears again and again, from the teacher to the principal, all the way up to the school board. I didn’t know where to turn.

In my daily rants on TikTok about the issues adolescents face at school and online, I came across an account saying many of the same things that I was. The only quirk, the user wore the familiar Guy Fawkes mask. So of course, I gave the account a follow and started digging deeper. There were so many accounts with #londinifamily or #TheGreatLondini attached, that I began to wonder if this was something more than just another TikTok warrior with a message.

A few months later I found myself in a TikTok live with a Great Londini Movement member called _maskedjustice_. MJ was interacting with viewers, and I had questions. MJ quickly and confidently shared facts and info about the movement as if they were a living databank. They also shared a personal story about what had led them here, allowing me to understand what type of dynamic this group was made of. I met a few other members at that point who were glad to share their experiences as well. Sometimes different stories than mine, but always the same mission. We have to be the ones we’ve been waiting for; we have to effect the change.

As I sit here, drafting a blog post for an international movement hundred strong, I have purpose. I was given purpose and value the moment I walked in this door. With teen suicide rates rising rapidly each year, parents have been let down by the procedure. We can’t stay by the wayside and not try. We work as many parts as possible of a great machine with a great purpose. As a collective, we are protective. You don’t even need to know our faces. We share your stories, your pain, your struggles, and you’re longing for change in this world we will leave to a younger generation one day. We are The Great Londini.
