Stand-In Parents, and Where To Find Them.

TikTok is easily the dominate social media platform of choice among young and old alike currently. With so many millions of people from all walks of life coming together, it’s no small surprise that needs are being met in ways they never would have been other wise.

One of the corners of TikTok that has been gaining major attention is that of stand-in families. Born from a need within the LBGTQ & trauma communities, individuals in need of these types of crucial care connections are finding what they so badly needed in their lives. Disowned, estranged, abandoned, & abused….we are numerous. But if our natural families were not there to offer love and support, what could we do?

Enter TikTokers like @the_zombie_dan and @north_omaha_cat_lady. Zombie Dan is a gay dad standing up for lbgtq folk everywhere, and the creator of Stand In Facebook groups, which can be accessed through the link tree in his TikTok bio. (There’s a lot!) North Omaha Cat Lady is a stand in mom and auntie with a lot to say to haters. Together, they and many others have stood up, banded together, and bridged the gap for many who just needed the feel of family support.

Creators like these are key to helping the positivity movement overshadow the negative, hateful side of social media. Not only that, they bring a feeling of kinship to those in need. Please consider them as a starting point if you have this sort of need in your own life. Your life is beautiful, and so needed.
