How To Find Your School’s Gossip Accounts on TikTok

Most parents might not be aware of the growing trend on TikTok of students creating “gossip accounts” on TikTok, usually under their school’s name, or some variation of. This is easy to check.

In the search bar type “John Doe Middle School Doeville, NY”, for example. You will be able to find relevant accounts, as they usually display the matching school’s logo.

Most of the time, the content is humor and fun. Sometimes, however, certain accounts will have posts that could be considered bullying, outing, rumor spreading, etc. If a student has a social media account, creators of these TikTok accounts will get whatever pictures they need from their social media account and use it for these videos.

Not all are bad, like I said. But I’d you come across something troubling, whether it pertains to your student or not, please report it. Take screenshots, contact social media platform whether it’s TikTok or another. On TikTok you can also report the content as intellectual property infringement if you know that the photo of your child originated from a photo taken on your phone or theirs and posted to a social media account belonging to you.
