Check Your Home for Predators
Every so often I like to check my local neighborhood and surrounding area to see if any new sex offenders have moved in. If so, I want to know where they live, their name, what they did, and what they look like. Before I sound like a lunatic, I should add that I’m a parent.
I know there are websites offering free records searches, but they are usually limited and do ask for your information eventually. Others aren’t actually free at all. The one I have personally used for years is FamilyWatchDog.us, which has never required any of these things.
The website, www.familywatchdog.us, not only offers extensive location searches, but will search areas but school or daycare names as well. Results returned will give you the address of any registered offender’s address in that area. You can view this in map or list form. Color coded pins tell you if the offense is against a child, rape, sexual battery, or “other offense”. You can also see the offenders other known aliases, tattoos or other markings, specific criminal charges as it relates, and even a mugshot.
This free resource is priceless when considering a new home, school or childcare, or where your child might be going with friends. I have used it numerous times over the years and am surprised that more people don’t know about it. Honestly, I encourage my readers to share it with anyone they think it might help.
