But what do you guys actually do?A day in the life of an average Londini member.
I get so many questions on a daily basis. Mostly from people that think our movement is one big group of elite hackers attempting to take on bullying and make the world a better place. If only that were the case! We could pack it up and go home by month’s end, I suppose. However, as with any large movement or organization, the foundation is built with the hard work and dedication of each and every member, down to the newest and most inexperienced. So, since you’re all dying to know, I’ll share what a typical day for myself looks like.
I start by checking my socials, where I look in on the people I have been keeping tabs on. They might be trolls or victims. While I’m basically lurking behind my screen making sure my current “babies” have no new troll activity and monitor where the trolls have been trolling, I’m also guzzling a pot of coffee all by myself. Then I’ll check a shared bulletin board for new interests that have caught the movement’s attention. I need to be educated and up to date on whatever situation a person might be going through. It isn’t just bullying we deal with. We are pretty big in the support department too.
After all that comes my favorite part, the scouting. Anything I find that I feel needs to be brought to the movement’s attention, I collect data on. I then add it to the bulletin board with a summary about what is going on and how the person could most likely use support. And that’s it! Just kidding, it's not that easy either. The truth is, we are all here because something in our personal lives drove us here. So, I then turn my attention to the personal life battles on my agenda. Right now, my aim is creating a safe place for local high school students to speak out and be heard on the issues they are facing at school. Now, without my movement, I wouldn’t know where to start or what to do! But because of the training I receive here, I know what to do. It’s not as overwhelming as it would have been otherwise. I have support, and can help support others in return. In time I will have more responsibilities here, as others before me. I have so much more to learn, and there are those here that have talents never will. For all of my Londini family, I am quite grateful.
So, did I answer everything? I know, I know. Are we actually hackers? Would that answer give any more or any less value to our work, though? I don’t think so. It’s not the label of the thing, it’s the heart of the thing. Of course, there is so much more I can’t actually share with just anybody. But, you could always join….
